Partners, children and friends are joining Gymophobics Stockport members to share in the life-changing benefits offered by us.
Inspired by stories from women who’ve lost weight and improved their fitness since signing up, husbands, friends and children are discovering the benefits of Gymophobics for themselves and experiencing unbelievable results.
Known as a ladies-only facility, Gymophobics has extended its mixed facilities and couples are now reaping the rewards of tailor-made health and fitness programmes.
Brenda Hunt visited Gymophobics for the first time in 2007 after her 64th birthday.
A sufferer of bronchitis and wear and tear on the lower spine, Brenda hadn’t been able to do exercise for many years. She had gained weight and her health had deteriorated.
After her initial session at Gymophobics, Brenda left feeling liberated and ready to change her life.
Brenda said: “I didn’t know what to expect and I was quite nervous but Jo McGee, the owner of Gymophobics, made me so welcome. She made me realise that I had taken a massive step towards creating a new me. We put together my own personal fitness plan which I had to follow for just 30 minutes three times a week.”
Like many Gymophobics members, Brenda had struggled with her weight for a long time.
Jo McGee, explained: “We see ladies of all ages, shapes and sizes struggling with the same issues day in day out. It’s our job to motivate ladies to come to the gym and to encourage them wherever we can. Because we are figure shaping for inch and weight loss, there is no need to get changed out of your everyday clothes.
“All of my gym team including myself have had or have got weight issues, which I think is important if we are to empathise and support people with their problems.”
Once suffering from high blood pressure, obesity and poor mobility, with support from Gymophobics, Brenda has transformed her life. To date she has lost 2.5 stones and a total of 70 inches from her upper arms, bust area, waist, tummy and thighs.
Brenda’s husband, Tom decided to join his wife at Gymophobics initially to provide some moral support.
Since then he’s seen such an impact on his own health and fitness that he’s recommending Gymophobics to his friends.
Tom said: “I tried Gymophobics for a month to see whether or not I liked it. I soon became addicted as it was so easy and comfortable. I also made some new acquaintances to chat to as I was doing my exercise. It certainly didn’t feel like I was at the gym.
“I couldn’t understand how I could possibly lose weight and lose my tummy when there was not a treadmill, bike or rowing machine in sight.”
In the first eight weeks Tom lost 9lbs in weight and 9.5 inches – three of which came off his stomach.
He said: “Brenda and I joined on a membership sharing scheme, which made exercise even more affordable.
“Not only is Gymophobics making us lose pounds, it’s also helping us to save pounds
