Good Cholesterol

Our body’s ‘good’ cholesterol, known as HDL (high density lipoprotein) appears to be even better than we realised. It is usually known for mopping up the ‘bad’ cholesterol (LDL low density lipoprotein) and delivering it to the liver for disposal. But new research shows that HDL also protects the liver from injury by blocking gut bacterial signals that can cause liver inflammation.

We can increase levels of HDL by staying a normal weight, exercising and eating a low carb diet with plenty of healthy fats such as olive oil and oily fish.
