A STUDY WITH ELEVEN-YEAR-OLDS

The results of a Finnish study involving 4,600 eleven-year-olds shows that an hour of daily physical activity protects children from getting fat from ‘screen time’ in adolescence.
The study showed that just six hours of exercise outside school a week makes a significant difference and eleven-year-olds who made the effort were far less likely to have piled on the pounds by the time they were fourteen. Researcher Elina Engberg said: “Physical activity protects children from the adverse effects of ‘digital media’ on their weight later in adolescence”.
